Welcome!

We decided to dedicate our website to microggressions. As times progress, and society changes, it is important we help eliminate the lack of awareness surrounding the subject. We believe that people deserve to be treated justly and equally based on their character, and microaggressions are discriminatory actions that fail to follow this belief. We hope this site will be one of many more platforms dedicated to creating safe spaces where minorities and other people can learn and share.

Microaggressions are the everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership.

1. Micro-assault: explicit racial or derogatory actions that are intended to hurt.
2. Micro-insult: an unconscious communication that demeans a person from a minority group.
3. Micro-invalidation: minimizing or disregarding the thoughts, feelings or experiences of a marginalized individual.

Many people disregard microaggressions and label those who have experienced them as “too sensitive “ or “playing the [enter a marginalized group] card”. When we invalidate the feelings of these individuals and allow the perpetrators to voice their negative stereotypes and prejudices, it can lead to discrimination, perpetuating the violence and systematic oppression that minorities have suffered through for years.
